OK we were set on a May 22nd wedding with a very small budget. When we went to contract the reception venue they offered us a huge discount if we changed the date to April 10th. My fiance and I jumped on it, but when we told our family and friends we had quite a few negative remarks. We politely explained it was better for us. Does anyone else think we should have consulted them or did we do it right?

Hey but i think you should not have changed the already decided date just for the sake of paying lesser amount.I think it was not right. If the date is already there in the wedding invitations, then i guess you should not have changed it:(

I think you did the right thing! It's so darn expensive, I would think they would understand.

This is your wedding and you both must do what it is that is going to suit you in the long run and if it means having to change the date so be it. There is plenty of time between now and then that it should not make a difference. Those who truly care should not be put off in the least. This is about the two of you and celebrating your life together not pleasing the rest of your friends or family.
